The Spark

We've been trying to measure something that starts outside us, goes through us, and ends outside us. Like fish trying to measure water while swimming in it. We kept building instruments to measure consciousness from the outside — brain scans, intelligence tests, Turing tests — when the whole time we were made of the thing we're trying to measure.

The universe is solar powered. Energy flows from the sun into our solar system (the Time Well) and gets held in stasis by the gravity/anti-gravity balance long enough for life to unfold.
